    Day 1   (Mon) Depart from Seattle by HU496 (13:20-16:35)

    Day 2   (Tue) Arrive Beijing
Welcome to China! You will be met at Beijing International Airport by your professional CITS guide who will escort you directly to the Shangri-La Kerry Center Hotel for your three night stay. Your hotel is located at the heart of the citys diplomatic, commercial and financial center and is only minutes from historical sites. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you like. After you settle into your room and explore the facilities, relax in Centro, the elegant hotel lounge voted one of the best bars in the capital.
    Day 3   (Wed) Beijing B,L,D
Today youll discover one of the most fascinating cities on earth. Well begin our tour of Beijing at the Gate of Heavenly Peace in historic Tiananmen Square, the largest city square in the world and the spiritual heart of China. Next well visit the Forbidden City, the grand palaces, temples, ceremonial buildings and living quarters of the Ming and Qing Imperial Courts. Well walk in the footsteps of Emperors, visit the private rooms of concubines and marvel at the priceless collections of jewelry, art and antiques. After lunch well leave the bustle of central Beijing for the northwestern outskirts of the city and the exquisite Summer Palace. More than a single building, the Summer Palace is actually an enormous park where the Emperor and his entourage retreated to escape the summer heat of the city. With its magnificent pavilions, towers and pagodas, peaceful lakes and enchanting landscape, it is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site; it is the most splendid classical garden in China.
    Day 4   (Thu) Beijing B, L, D
Well take a full-day excursion into the countryside to visit one of the Wonders of the World - The Great Wall of China. An astounding architectural and engineering achievement, construction of the Great Wall began more than 2000 years ago. Today it snakes across approximately 4000 miles of Chinas rugged interior. We will visit the Badaling section, 45 miles north of Beijing. Built during the Ming Dynasty, Badaling is the best preserved section of the Wall. It includes several platforms and watchtowers and is wide enough to accommodate 10 men marching abreast. The views of the surrounding mountains and passes are breathtaking. On our way back to town we will stop at the Ming Dynasty Tombs, the final resting place of 13 emperors. We will walk along the Spirit Way, a sacred path guarded by stone statues of animals, mythical beasts and Imperial officials. We will also visit the Ding Tomb, the burial site of the emperor Wanli and his 2 empresses, the only tomb that has been excavated. We will return to Beijing in time for dinner.
    Day 5   (Fri) Beijing / Nanjing by HU7121 (14:10-15:55) B, L, D
After breakfast, you will visit the Temple of Heaven, one of Beijings most significant and recognizable landmarks. Each year the Emperor performed an elaborate ritual in the temple to insure a good harvest and the well-being of the Chinese people. Later you will enjoy the spectacular views of the Olympic Park such as the Bird''s Net and the Water Cube. After lunch you will take the short Hainan Airlines flight to Nanjing, Imperial capital of 11 dynasties. Your CITS guide will meet your flight and escort you to the Sofitel Galaxy Hotel (Five Star plus). This afternoon is free to shop, explore Nanjing on your own, enjoy the hotels heated indoor pool or simply relax.
    Day 6   (Sat) Nanjing / Chongqing / Yangtze River Cruise B, L, D
We will spend a full day visiting Nanjings attractions. Our first stop will be the Mausoleum of Dr Sun Yat-sen, the Father of Modern China. Our next stop is the Nanjing Museum to view the outstanding calligraphy, art and bronze ware collections. Our final stop of the day will be the Confucian Temple built in 1034. The area surrounding the Temple is a popular place for social gatherings especially during the Spring, Lantern, and Mid-Autumn Festivals. There are plenty of colorful street vendors selling food and souvenirs. This is also a great area to find bargains on antiques. After lunch you will fly to Chongqing to board your 5 Star River Cruiser, the MS Yangtze1. After you have settled into your cabin, join the captain for a welcome aboard cocktail party.

The MS Yangtze1 is a brand new deluxe cruiser, entering service in 2006. A sleek and beautiful vessel, she can accommodate 218 passengers. She is equipped with sightseeing platforms, central air conditioning, closed circuit TV, movie theater, ballroom, business center and wireless Internet access. The restaurant serves both Chinese and Western style cuisine. There is a bar with Karaoke, Tea Center, Spa with sauna and massage services, a beauty salon and live music and theatrical entertainment. Lectures on Chinese culture and history are offered throughout the cruise to help you make the most of your Yangtze experience. There is a tea presentation where you can sample varieties from all over China. You can try your hand at calligraphy or painting or learn how to play Mahjong. Or you can choose to do nothing at all. Find a comfortable spot, put your feet up and marvel at the spectacular scenery, ancient pagodas and small towns along our route.
    Day 7   (Sun) THE YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE: CHONGQING/FENGDU B,L,D
We set sail at 9 am. Bring your coffee or tea out onto the deck and watch Chongqing fade into the morning mist. Our first port of call is the legendary city of Fengdu, the Ghost City. We will climb the steps C or ride the cable car C to the top of Mingshan Hill where the temples, pagodas and pavilions overflow with garish statues of demons, devils and other supernatural creatures. The view of the river from the hilltop is magnificent. Once everyone is safely back onboard, we will continue our voyage toward the first 2 Gorges.
    Day 8   (Mon) THE YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE: BADONG/SAN DOU PING B,L,D
You will want to be up and on deck early this morning for the thrilling experience of riding the swift currents through the magnificent cliffs, peaks and overhangs of Qutang and Wu Gorges. We will arrive at the port town of Badong around noon. After lunch, we will board small boats and drift up Shennong Stream, a small tributary with its own system of gorges and breathtaking scenery. When we finish this delightful excursion, we will rejoin our cruiser and sail through the last stunning gorge, Xiling. Late this afternoon we will arrive at San Dou Ping and the Three Gorges Dam - the largest and most ambitious hydroelectric project in history �Vwhere we will pass through the amazing five-level ship locks.
    Day 9   (Tue) THE YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE: Yichang / Wuhan
We will visit the Dam construction site - where up to 30,000 people are working at any given time - and learn about how the project it will impact the landscape and the people of China, before sailing on to our final destination, Yichang. Around noon we will disembark and board a private coach for a fascinating cross-country journey to Wuhan, Sit back and watch the scenes of Chinese life pass by the window. We will check in to the luxurious Wuhan Shangri La Hotel in time to freshen up before dinner.
    Day 10   (Wed) Wuhan / Xian
After breakfast you will board a morning Hainan Airlines flight to Xian, the terminus of the fabled Silk Road and the ancient Tang Dynasty capital. Your flight will be met by a woman widely recognized as the best guide in China, Michelle from CITS. She will escort you to the Shangri La Golden Flower Hotel (Five Star plus). The rest of day is free time. Make sure you get plenty of rest tonight. Tomorrow will be a full day.

    Day 11   (Thu) Xian
We will set out early to see the Terracotta Warriors, the most significant archeological find of the 20th century. Discovered in 1974 by a local farmer digging a well, the 6,000 plus life size warriors and horses Cindividually sculpted from real-life models and arranged in battle formation - have been protecting the mausoleum of Chinas first Emperor for more than 2,200 years. You will have plenty of time to view the warriors and to visit the excellent museum at the site. After lunch well visit Xians City Walls. The walls, which were built during the 14th century on much older Tang dynasty foundations, constitute the largest and best-preserved ancient fortress in the world. Our last stop will be at the Bell Tower. Standing in the center of the city since 1582, the Bell Tower is a three-story traditional Chinese structure with an iron bell that was rung hourly to keep everyone within the city walls synchronized to the correct time.
    Day 12   (Fri) Xian / Shanghai B, L, D
After breakfast, you will take a late morning flight to Shanghai, the largest and most metropolitan city in China. Your CITS guide will meet you at the airport and escort you to the luxurious Grand Mercure Baolong Hotel. You are only steps away from Shanghais world famous shopping and nightlife and the rest of day and evening are yours to enjoy this exciting city in whatever way you please.
    Day 13   (Sat) Shanghai B, L, D
Today you will visit the Shanghai Museum of Art & History, a fantastic facility that ranks among the great museums of the world. Later we will visit Yu Yuan Garden. More than 400 years old, Yu Yuan contains pavilions, rockeries and several ponds. Its traditional charm is a welcome contrast to the bustle of the ultra modern city that surrounds it. Yu Yuan Garden is a favorite spot for residents of Shanghai to relax and get away from it all. We will also take a walk along Nanjing Road, Shanghais premier shopping area and the busiest shopping street in the world. We will continue to the Bund, the historic riverfront district. The Gothic, Neo-Classical, and Art Deco buildings housed the European banks and trading houses that dominated Shanghai early in the 20th Century. Tonight enjoy a delicious banquet celebrating Shanghai style cuisine followed by a cruise on the Huangpu River for a spectacular night view of the city.
    Day 14   (Sun) Shanghai / Suzhou / Shanghai B, L, D
After breakfast we will depart for a full day excursion to one of Chinas most charming cities, Suzhou. About an hour west of Shanghai, Suzhou is famous for its magical classical gardens and ancient waterways. We will visit the fascinating silk factory and several lovely gardens before boarding a pleasure craft to float down the Grand Canal as people have done for more than 24 centuries. There will be time for a little shopping before we return to Shanghai in the late afternoon.
    Day 15   (Mon) Shanghai /Beijing by HU7606 (11:50-14:15) / Seattle by HU 495 (16:20-1140) or to next destination by Alaska Airlines B
After breakfast well take you to the airport for your Hainan Airlines flight to Beijing with connecting service to Seattle and home. You cross the International Date Line and arrive in the US the same day you leave China.
