    Day 2   Day 2 (Thu) Arrive Beijing
Welcome to China! You will be met at Beijing International Airport by your professional CITS guide who will escort you directly to the Shangri-La, China World Hotel for your three night stay. Your hotel is located at the heart of the citys diplomatic, commercial and financial center and is only minutes from historical sites. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you like. After you settle into your room and explore the facilities, relax in Centro, the elegant hotel lounge voted one of the best bars in the capital.
    Day 3   Day 3 (Fri) Beijing AB,L,D
Today youll discover one of the most fascinating cities on earth. Well begin our tour of Beijing at the Gate of Heavenly Peace in historic Tiananmen Square, the largest city square in the world and the spiritual heart of China. Next well visit the Forbidden City, the grand palaces, temples, ceremonial buildings and living quarters of the Ming and Qing Imperial Courts. Well walk in the footsteps of Emperors, visit the private rooms of concubines and marvel at the priceless collections of jewelry, art and antiques. After lunch well leave the bustle of central Beijing for the northwestern outskirts of the city and the exquisite Summer Palace. More than a single building, the Summer Palace is actually an enormous park where the Emperor and his entourage retreated to escape the summer heat of the city. With its magnificent pavilions, towers and pagodas, peaceful lakes and enchanting landscape, it is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site; it is the most splendid classical garden in China.
    Day 4   Day 4 (Sat) Beijing AB,L,D
Well take a full-day excursion into the countryside to visit one of the Wonders of the World - The Great Wall of China. An astounding architectural and engineering achievement, construction of the Great Wall began more than 2000 years ago. Today it snakes across approximately 4000 miles of Chinas rugged interior. We will visit the Badaling section, 45 miles north of Beijing. Built during the Ming Dynasty, Badaling is the best preserved section of the Wall. It includes several platforms and watchtowers and is wide enough to accommodate 10 men marching abreast. The views of the surrounding mountains and passes are breathtaking. On our way back to town we will stop at the Ming Dynasty Tombs, the final resting place of 13 emperors. We will walk along the Spirit Way, a sacred path guarded by stone statues of animals, mythical beasts and Imperial officials. We will also visit the Ding Tomb, the burial site of the emperor Wan li and his 2 empresses, the only tomb that has been excavated. After that you will visit the Temple of Heaven, one of Beijings most significant and recognizable landmarks. Each year the Emperor performed an elaborate ritual in the temple to insure a good harvest and the well-being of the Chinese people. We will go to a local restaurant for dinner.
    Day 5   Day 5 (Sun) Beijing / Xian AB, L, D
After breakfast, you will take the short Hainan Airlines flight to Xian the terminus of the fabled Silk Road and the ancient Tang Dynasty capital. Xian is 5000 years old and has witnessed the full history of Chinese civilization. Your guide will meet your flight and escort you for sightseeing at the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the symbol of Xian, built in 652 A.D to house priceless Buddhist sutras from India. Our last stop will be at the Bell Tower. Standing in the center of the city since 1582, the Bell Tower is a three-story traditional Chinese structure with an iron bell that was rung hourly to keep everyone within the city walls synchronized to the correct time.<br><br>
    Day 6   Day 6 (Mon) Xian / Chongqing / Yangtze River Cruises AB, L, D
We will set out early to see the Terracotta Warriors, the most significant archeological find of the 20th century. Discovered in 1974 by a local farmer digging a well, the 6,000 plus life size warriors and horses Individually sculpted from real-life models and arranged in battle formation - have been protecting the mausoleum of Chinas first Emperor for more than 2,200 years. You will have plenty of time to view the warriors and to visit the excellent museum at the site. We will take an evening flight to Chongqing and board the luxury Cruiser – MS Century Sky. MS Century Sky latest and most luxurious ships and one will be our home for the next three nights. As the sun sets, the ship picks up anchor and prepares to sail down the majestic Yangtze at 23:30.
    Day 7   Day 7 (Tue) Yangtze River Cruise AB,L,D
The first shore excursion of your cruise will occur at one of two towns (depending on local river conditions): Fengdu or Wanzhou. Fengdu is a peculiar site that is accessed via cable car. It contains numerous statues of devils and ghosts that roam the afterworld. Wanzhou was agglomerated in 1997 to become a part of the greater Chongqing Municipality, although it lies 143 miles away. By the time the Three Gorges Dam is completed, 47% of Wanzhou''''''''s old urban area will be submerged.
    Day 8   Day 8 (Wed) Yangtze River Cruise AB,L,D
Enter the exciting part of the cruise, the famous Three Gorges! The ship passes through Qutang Gorge, the shortest, narrowest, but most visually dramatic of the three. Next up is Wu Gorge, known for its serene beauty, forest covered mountains and sheer cliffs. Arrive at Wushan where you disembark to board smaller vessels. These vessels allow access to the Lesser Gorges via one of the tributaries of the Yangtze - either Daning River or Shennong Stream. Reboard the cruise ship to pass through Xiling Gorge, the longest and deepest of the Three Gorges. In the evening, sail through the Three Gorges ship locks.
    Day 9   Day 9 (Thu) Yangtze River Cruise / Yichang /Suzhou AB, L, D
On this last day of the cruise the ship arrives at Sandouping Village where you disembark to board a motorcoach taking you to the Three Gorges Dam Site. The controversial project is the largest of its type in the world and once completed in 2009, will change the landscape of the Yangtze River Valley forever. Reboard and sail on to our final destination, Yichang, where you transfer to the airport for a flight to Shanghai where the local guide will meet you and escort you to Suzhou, a garden city and “Venice in the east”. You will be transferred to Shangri-La Suzhou Hotel directly.
    Day 10   Day 10 (Fri) Suzhou / Shanghai
After breakfast we will visit the Tiger Hill, Administrator’s Garden before boarding a pleasure craft to float down the Grand Canal. We will visit the fascinating silk factory and do a little shopping before we drive to Shanghai in the late afternoon.<br>Shanghai is China’s largest metropolis. Cosmopolitan and dynamic, Shanghai stirs the senses. China''''s most modern city exudes an international flair that can be traced back 100 years when it quartered off into sections occupied by foreign nationals.<br>
    Day 11   Day 11 (Sat) Shanghai AB, L, D
Be sure to eat plenty of breakfast this morning as a busy day of sightseeing has been scheduled for today. Finish up our city tour with a visit this morning to the Shanghai Museum as we admire the 120,000 pieces of ancient Chinese art arranged in twelve exhibition halls. Free time is provided at the Shanghai Museum with no pre-set itinerary. The nearby shopping area Nanjing Road is within easy walking distance should you decide to leave the Museum. We start by visiting the Yu Garden, a Ming dynasty garden ranked as one of the top four gardens in China. It was built by a wealthy man for his parents as an act of filial piety. Continue on to the waterfront Bund, stopping to walk along the mile-long stretch along the Huangpu River lined by buildings of European heritage. Our bus also drives by bustling Nanjing Road, a favorite shopping area for locals. After dinner tonight, we have been provided the hottest ticket in town - admission to the Chinese Acrobatics Show!
    Day 12   Day 12 (Sun) Shanghai AB, L, D
You will enjoy your relaxation today. Your hotel is very close to Shanghai Expo 2010 and you can go to Shanghai Expo 2010 by hotel Shuttle bus. The ceremony of Shanghai Expo 2010 will be held on May 1, 2010. During the period between May 1, and October 31, 2010 CITS Nanjing provides visitors with entry tickets for Shanghai Expo 2010. CITS Nanjing also arranges a special dinner to celebrate your successful tour in China.
    Day 13   Day 13 (Mon) Shanghai /Beijing by HU7606 (11:50-14:15) / Seattle by HU 495 (16:20-1140) AB
After breakfast well take you to the airport for your Hainan Airlines flight to Beijing with connecting service to Seattle and home. You cross the International Date Line and arrive in the US the same day you leave China.
